Words reflective of the inspiration Ted absorbs from Helmut Newton’s philosophy of a ‘studio’. The images selected for this show by Curator Hilda Yasseri are all related to hotels and Helmut Newton. Not only did Ted photograph in hotels, but hotels that are intimate to Newton’s life. The exhibition consists primarily of images from Hotel Bogota in Berlin where Newton learned to photograph as a teenager and Chateau Marmont in West Hollywood where Newton often lived and worked with his wife June.
“It’s that I don’t like white paper backgrounds. A woman does not live in front of white paper. She lives on the street, in a motor car, in a hotel room.” – Helmut Newton
